The only bit of plastic on the card is the fans. The shroud is almost entirly made of aluminium and the card feels very sturdy. The card is huge and very heavy, so this is just as well. The included support pillar is a nice touch and works well to support the card, though getting an additional bracket might be a good idea too. The card runs cool and is very quiet, and is a huge upgrade from the 1080ti it replaced.
The sheer power of this thing is insane. It stays nice and cool, and actually is very power efficient. Running MW2 on a 5800X3D, on extreme settings (3440x1440) with DLSS quality mode enabled, it maxes out at around 280W which is less than the 2080Ti it replaced. Whilst running it at 200+FPS, far more than the Ti was capable of. Yes it's expensive, but you do get what you pay for, which is insane performance.
As per every other 4090, this is a chunky boy, and heavy to boot. I was able to easily fit it in my ROG Strix case though, smaller cases will definitely have a problem getting it in. A small stand comes in the box to help support the card, this is appreciated. Upgrading from a ROG Strix 3090, the increase in FPS for games is mind blowing. For reference, I play on a 4k 144 mhz monitor I tested all games in max details and if raytracing was available set to max and if dlss available, set to quality. Cyberpunk went from 39FPS average to 72. Fary Cry 5 from 104 to 137 Forza 4 from 116 to 202 Forza 5 from 70 to 130 Dirt 5 from 82 to 145 Red Dead Redemption 2 from 72 to 122 Shadow of the Tomb Raider from 100 to 188 Metro Exodus Enhanced from 59 to 91 Deus Ex Mankind Divided from 84 to 134 GTA 5 from 57 to 109 All the time time temperatures are lower than the 3090 ever was. It's expensive but this uplift in performance is well worth the price.
